The Ouija board is used as a communication portal during a séance in a haunted house.
Great-grand daughters of William Fuld who was running Kennard Novelty in 1890. The company that manufactured and marketed the “talking board” that was patented by Elijah Bond, a Baltimore attorney.
During the Oujiacon, Investigator Sommer Jonez takes part in an eye-tracking experiment while using a Ouija board. These experiments were conducted by a visiting team of investigators from Denmark. (To learn the results of this experiment, scroll down.)
RATING: 3 Charley’s
This documentary sets out to address the two big hot-potato questions regarding Ouija boards. Do they work and are they dangerous to use? In several attempts to answer these question, the investigators, Sommer Jonez, Alejandro Dominguez and Josh Heard hold a series of séances in some famously haunted places where their experiments yield some surprising results.
Sorry, no spoiler alerts here.
A séance conducted by a Coven of Wiccans in a library results in scratching noises, whistling and a disembodied voice saying “Hello.”
The only reason there weren’t more Charley’s bestowed upon this feature was because of the production quality, basically the continually floating camera work and uneven recordings. Their investigative techniques were also a little loose here and there, but they will surely improve with more practice. A minor point, the use of strong language. Don’t get me wrong, I grew up in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen, so such “Bon Mots” are nothing new to me. But they do tend to draw attention away from the situation at hand.
Bloody Mary, Voo Doo/New Orleans Historian ritually cleanses a Ouija board with fire for investigators Josh Heard and Sommer Jonez.
I also would have liked to have learned a little more about the background stories of the haunted locations they visited. Over all, you’ll enjoy this video, just as many of us have enjoyed using the Ouija board in the past.
Another Séance, this time before a reportedly haunted mirror in a haunted house. In this instance, investigator Alejandro Dominguez’s (foreground) deceased Grandmother came though the board. This experience so unnerved Dominguez that he quit the production.
After the Planchette flies off the board, the crew decides to get rid of the board by burning it. Most practitioners of the Ouija strongly recommend against doing this as it will often cause worse problems.
Burying it or conducting an “industrial strength” cleansing is a better way to go.
