FURY OF THE DEMON – THE MOST DANGEROUS MOVIE OF ALL TIME?

FOT RRATING POST

DID THE  THE
ORIGINATOR OF SPECIAL EFFECTS, GEORGE MELIES  DIRECT THIS FILM? OR IS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION MUCH MORE SINISTER?

NOPE. THE ANSWER IS THAT THE FILM IS A FAKE!
IT’S A “MOCKUMENTARY”
Admittedly, I was fooled by this one. Ironically, it’s the film that inspired me to create this site. What caused me to go back and take another look at it?  Well, an alert lady, Jen H. and accomplished Fortean, from the U.K. contacted me, through this site, with some very insightful comments and valid questions that got my wheels a- turning.

After some serious Google diving, I came to the realization that most of the events and people in the video didn’t happen, or didn’t exist.
The Wikipedia reference below quickly resolved the whole question.

A shout out to Ms. Jen H. for putting me on the right track and an apology to all my other visitors for letting them slip a fast one past me.

A great trailer and blurb sets the stage to make it easy to suspend belief and buy into the premise it’s a authentic documentary.

“A documentary investigation that traces violent riots said to be caused by a rare and dangerous lost 19th century silent film named La Rage Du Demon” (Fury of the Demon,) which was allegedly created by the Father of Cinema, Georges Melies. Through conversations with filmmakers, producers, journalists, historians and psychologists, this documentary slowly uncovers the truth about the most cursed and disturbing movie ever made.”
Kanopy Streaming Service Review

If, what they say is true in this video, then this film is “THE MOST DANGEROUS MOVIE OF ALL TIME.” As the sub-title of this 2019, French documentary claims. WELL IT’S NOT!

IT’S NEW RATING: A Fake Charley.
The second one to be awarded on this site.

Once again the venerable Charles Fort dons his fake nose and glasses and delivers the final verdict.

THE GHOST HUNTER SHOWS TO BINGE BY – PLUS A FREE SHOW

PROFEATIMAGE
Steve Shippy began documenting his work on film, and to date has produced and directed 10 feature length documentaries. Including “A Haunting on Hamilton Street,” “A Haunting on Dice Road,” and “A Haunting on Brockway Street” where he investigates haunted locations to uncover the truth, and hopefully bring closure for residents of small towns like his.

OVERALL RATING OF BOTH SERIES: 5 Charley’s
The first thing I have to share with you is, that I am not a big fan of network “reality” Ghost Hunting shows. I find they tend to have very little “reality” and decent research techniques in them and way too much manufactured drama as a backstory. These are the main reasons such shows are referred to in TV production parlance as docu-dramas.

A Haunting on Potter Street – The Potter Street Station

But then I discovered Steve Shippy, A.K.A. Prozak, the Rapper turned Ghost Hunter on Amazon Prime. First I was impressed with the excellent production value of each show. Then, the well-organized and well equipped Ghost Hunting investigations, he and his team is second to none.

Third, the results the teams gets in terms of video footage and recorded Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) sent many a chill down my spine. Of course watching such shows in complete darkness helps foster such goose-bump reactions.

Finally, its Shippy’s approach to the reason he Ghost Hunts. He comes across as genuinely wanting to, not only to help the people who are undergoing unpleasant supernatural intrusions, but also the poor spirits, trapped here, who are causing the haunting situations in the first place. He’s not driven to prove the paranormal is real or not, he just accepts what is happening is real, and then adapts a humanistic approach to deal with the situation at hand.

In Shippy’s defense of not being taken on a “rube ride”, the team always conducts thorough background research in each case. And examine the witnesses’ claims to detect possible fraud and sleight-of-hand trickery. So his acceptance as to the reality of the haunting is a guarded one.

Unfortunately, not all haunts Shippy comes across are all just creaking floors and random knocks in the night. Some are downright cantankerous and demonic in nature, causing vandalism and bodily injury. For encounters like these, Shippy enlists the services of professional Exorcists or Mediums to conduct site cleansings.

While on the subject of professionals, one reoccurring guest Ghost Hunter is Brian Harnois, one of the original team members of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (T.A.P.S.). Their show, Ghost Hunters, premiered way back in 2004 on the SyFi channel. It was the first show of its kind and popularized paranormal reality TV and Ghost Hunting. (Wikipedia). Brian’s catch phrase is “Dude RUN!”

Brian’s style of Ghost Hunting is dramatically opposite of Shippy’s. Brian tends to be more confrontational and in- (the Ghost’s) face, forcing the entity into a physical altercation. This usually results in Brain getting the worst of these exchanges, resulting often in deep red scratches or other unpleasant painful side-effects. Admittedly these touches of “drama” makes for good TV, and satisfies one part of the required reality TV formula.

But it’s not the usual goofiness of other Ghost Hunter shows where the team members are arguing with each other, till they hear a bang. At which point they abruptly end their petty manufactured squabble and begin screaming “What was that? What was that?” Maybe if you had been Ghost Hunting and not reliving high-school, you’d know what that was. But, I digress.

Brian unfortunately brings a lot of baggage with him to the show.  A lot of Ghost Hunter fans are not too happy seeing him again. And they enjoy the fact that he is being brutally be resulted by unearthly claws. A Google search will give you the details. But Shippy fully supports him and respects Brian’s many years of experience and advice.

Now the question remains, is Shippy faking it all? I can’t answer that. Simply I don’t know. But after bingeing my way through all these shows, and seeing and hearing all the circumstantial evidence documented in them, I’ve come away with the conclusion that there may be something out there  lurking in the shadows, worthy of more investigation. Ultimately to be proven if it’s indeed real or not.

WILLIAM FRIEDKIN’S THE DEVIL AND FATHER AMORTH

AMORTHPOSTI
Over 40 years after the release of the “The Exorcist,” Director William Friedkin meets the Vatican’s “Dean of Exorcists,” Father Gabriele Amorth, and receives permission to film his ninth attempt to exorcise a woman named Christina.
Amazon Prime’s Blurb.

OFFICIAL TRAILER

ITS RATING:  5 Charley’s.
Now, I’m not a lightweight when it comes to horror movies. But “The Exorcist” scared the Heebie-Jeebies out of me. So much so, that I have only seen the film once, and that was on the big screen way back in 1973 when it premiered.

The movie was based on the book, with the same title by the late William Peter Blattey. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie. The book in turn, was based on an actual exorcism.

All of this backstory is covered in great detail by William Friedkin, who also serves as the host and cameraman as he delves into the world of demonic possessions. He was invited by the late Father Amorth to film Christina’s 9th exorcism. Friedkin’s hand-held, point-of-view camera work gives the audience a front row seat to the turbulent ritual. It is revealed during this cleansing that the Demon who possess Christina is not just some run-of-the-mill, low level tormentor, but Satan himself!

RESTRAINED
Several Deacons, much bigger and heavier than Christina
struggled to restrain her during the ritual. That’s
Christina’s mother looking on in the background, praying
along with a room full of family members and friends.

Friedkin then takes his astonishing footage and consults numerous medical and religious authorities to get their professional take as to Christina’s claim of possession and use of exorcism to help heal  people with this diagnosis.  Their learned opinions will surprise you. Couple that with Friedkin’s and his Production Assistant’s later chilling encounter with Christina and her boyfriend in a church will make this one documentary you won’t soon forget.
