DID THE THE ORIGINATOR OF SPECIAL EFFECTS, GEORGE MELIES DIRECT THIS FILM? OR IS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION MUCH MORE SINISTER?
NOPE. THE ANSWER IS THAT THE FILM IS A FAKE! IT’S A “MOCKUMENTARY”
Admittedly, I was fooled by this one. Ironically, it’s the film that inspired me to create this site. What caused me to go back and take another look at it? Well, an alert lady, Jen H. and accomplished Fortean, from the U.K. contacted me, through this site, with some very insightful comments and valid questions that got my wheels a- turning.
After some serious Google diving, I came to the realization that most of the events and people in the video didn’t happen, or didn’t exist.
The Wikipedia reference below quickly resolved the whole question.
A shout out to Ms. Jen H. for putting me on the right track and an apology to all my other visitors for letting them slip a fast one past me.

A great trailer and blurb sets the stage to make it easy to suspend belief and buy into the premise it’s a authentic documentary.
“A documentary investigation that traces violent riots said to be caused by a rare and dangerous lost 19th century silent film named La Rage Du Demon” (Fury of the Demon,) which was allegedly created by the Father of Cinema, Georges Melies. Through conversations with filmmakers, producers, journalists, historians and psychologists, this documentary slowly uncovers the truth about the most cursed and disturbing movie ever made.” Kanopy Streaming Service Review
If, what they say is true in this video, then this film is “THE MOSTDANGEROUS MOVIE OF ALL TIME.” As the sub-title of this 2019, French documentary claims. WELL IT’S NOT!
IT’S NEW RATING: A Fake Charley.
The second one to be awarded on this site.
Once again the venerable Charles Fort dons his fake nose and glasses and delivers the final verdict.

Good movie for Halloween I suppose, and an excellent example of the “mockumentary” genera.

here it is. (They didn’t fool me with this one.) WAS THE MOON LANDING FAKED? OR WAS THE DOCUMENTARY?
“Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow” is a short documentary created by writer and independent documentary film-maker, J.D. Thompson covering the early stages of an investigation into an ancient New England Werewolf legend hidden in the sleepy mountain towns of the Cold Hollow mountain region of Vermont.“ BLACKHAT ENTERTAINMENT YOUTUBE CHANNEL
“Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow” Opening
RATING: 3 Charley’s I’m on the fence with this one. First, it’s created by an accomplished documentary film maker and author, J.D. Thompson. Because of this fact, the production value is excellent, so it’s a pleasure to watch and it’s very informative. I am well familiar with supposed “Werewolf” and “Dog Men” cryptid reports from all over the country, but I was not familiar with reports from this particular area of Vermont. So I was intrigued when I stumbled across this FREE documentary on YouTube.
Interesting B&B Thomson stayed at. Of course it could be a Bear, they do have them in Cold Hollow.
A general google search only turned up references to “Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow.” “Werewolves in Vermont” turned up a sighting in Green Mountain National Park, I have included recorded report down below in theREFERENCE section.
Hunting the for Hound of Cold Hollow seemed a little too polished at first viewing, because I was expecting a gritty documentary film style. Immediately I questioned if the people appearing in the film were actors or not? None of them were identified on screen, so that’s usually a red flag. Luckily, Thompson clears this question up in his FAQ, that’s conveniently included in the description of the video on his YouTube post. (Which, BTW, is a must read.) “They are not actors and they are all residents of the Cold Hollow region.” That doesn’t mean they are the actual first-hand witnesses however. Thompson also uses the discredited Gable film* and refers to it as a hoax and further discusses it in the same FAQ.

There are several references in the movie to historical events involving “Werewolves” in the area. Specifically; “In 1951, an article featured in National Geographic reported sightings of the Werewolf as far south as Washington County, Vermont in the forests near Groton Pond.” Which is only about 1 hour and 30 minutes south from the Cold Hollow region.
I couldn’t check this article out as I have to be a subscriber to Nat. Geo. to get online access to the archives. Perhaps there is a Fortean researcher reading this right now who is a subscriber and can please look this article up? Unfortunately, the issue number and date are not mentioned in the video.
There’s also a strange incident of a cheaply acquired ancient Irish book on shape-shifters that is later stolen from Thompson. Other than a quick mention at the very end of the video “that there were criminal proceedings against the suspect, but no charges were ever filed.” It’s never adequately explained. It’s all these loose ends that bother me.
From the standpoint of this documentary serving as an introduction to a possibly new Fortean hot-spot in Vermont, inhabited by a cryptid, the video delivers on that. If it also serves as a catalyst for more serious research, all the better. Such research might encourage credible witnesses to come forth. These events may add some substance to what is now considered a legend lurking in the Cold Hollow Mountains. My greatest concern is that the “Hound and/or “Werewolf”” takes on a life of its own and becomes an internet meme, much the way the Slenderman mouse-clicked his way into the exclusive, member’s only, Fortean Club.

The Werewolf Lectures: Episode 1 In 2018, the short film “Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow” was created based on J.D.
